Tarsier caught by a farmer in Quinapondan, returned to the wild

A TARSIER (tarsius of the family tarsiidae)was caught by a farmer named Florencio Caandoy of Brgy. Palactad, Quinapondan, E. Samar while he was collecting firewood yesterday. He then informed the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, Engr. Felix John Bianes about his catch.

Engr. Felix John Bianes then informed the Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources – Region 8 about the tarsier and sent Ma’am Gimelina L. Parmis, Science Research Assistant, Conservation and Dev’t. Division and Sir Devon Nexxus Nerza, DMS

Ma’am Gimelina interviewed Mr. Florencio on how he got the tarsier and if he was aware that catching and possession of endangered species such as tarsier is illegal and is punishable by law. Mr. Florencio answered that he has no intention of keeping the tarsier and agreed immediately to return it to the wild.

Also present were Mr. Jared Pompee Jamarolin, Hon. Joey Alamodin Napal, Brgy. Kagawad of Brgy. Palactad, Mr. Christopher Quiza.

Ma’am Gimelina reiterated that we should take care of our wildlife because they play a vital role in the food chain.
